All L.A. Trade-Technical College courses are offered for college credit. All courses which are degree applicable and meet the major requirements of the educational programs listed in this catalog may be applied toward graduation requirements for the Associate Degree. Some courses are offered for college credit, but cannot be applied toward graduation requirements for the Associate Degree. Such courses are designated by the code NDA (non degree applicable). Grades earned in non-degree applicable (NDA) courses shall not be included in calculating students' degree applicable grade point averages

COURSES OFFERED ARE LISTED ALPHABETICALLY BY TITLE WITH BRIEF COURSE DESCRIPTIONS AND OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION:

CREDIT VALUE The credit value of each course is indicated in semester units by the number in parenthesis after the course title. Each unit typically represents one hour a week for lecture or recitation, or a longer time in laboratory or activity classes. Abbreviations may appear indicating the type of credit that can be earned. The following abbreviations are used:

TRANSFERABILITY Courses acceptable for transfer credit at the University of California and at the California State Universities and Colleges are marked after the course unit value:

  • UC - Courses so designated are acceptable for credit to all branches of the University of California.
  • CSU - Courses so designated are acceptable for credit at all branches of the California State University.
  • CAN - California Articulation Number - Identifies some of the transferable, lower division, introductory courses which will be accepted "in lieu" of the comparable CAN courses of another participating college. For specific course equivalent, see a counselor.

If no transfer designations appear after the course title, the course is not transferable.

COURSE REPEATABILITY FOR CREDIT RPT identifies courses which may be repeated for credit. The number which follows RPT indicates the number of times the course may be repeated for credit. For example, RPT2 indicates that the course may be taken three times for credit.

NON DEGREE APPLICABLE COURSE NDA identifies prerequisite or developmental level courses not applicable to the Associate Degree. These courses cover, at an accelerated rate, subject matter that was not completed in high school or for which a demonstrated need for review exists.

COURSE PREREQUISITES, COREQUISITES, ADVISORY INFORMATION Prerequisites are classes or skills a student should have prior to enrolling in the class. These suggestions are made by the faculty of that department because they feel that the prerequisites are necessary for successful completion of the course.

Corequisite/ Concurrent Enrollment is a faculty recommendation of a class that should be taken simultaneously with another class to maximize your success.

Recommended Preparation/Advisory is a faculty recommendation of courses or skills you are advised to have, but not required to meet before or in conjunction with enrollment in a class.

If you do not agree with the recommendations made by the faculty, you have the right to challenge the recommendations. Please contact your department chairperson for the challenge process procedures and form. Once a challenge form is submitted, your request and documentation will be reviewed by committee. You will be notified within five (5) working days of the final decision.

MODULAR CLASSES Modularized courses are offered throughout the Los Angeles Community College District. Such courses carry partial credit. All modules of a course must be taken to receive full credit for the course. Units and/or hours for modularized courses will vary from the catalog descriptions. Modularized courses are identified in the Class Schedule by a letter after the course number (A, B, C, etc.).
